What’s the Deal with Trigger Warnings?

Doesn’t bringing them up defeat the purpose?

Every so often, in the two hours I waste just prior to sleeping scrolling through my phone in bed I’ll see a video where there’s a rant or some altercation to feed the itch I need to have drama in my life but not be involved in it a trigger warning will come up.
