Well yeah, I set a big boundary and I made it clear that it would really upset me if she crossed it. She’s been respectful of that boundary, and she’s made abundantly clear her boundaries too.

When I say I didn’t “let” her, it means that this is a boundary that I’m setting. It’s a delicate line that can become authoritarian and abusive, and it’s a semantic subtlety that we should be careful around.

Authority, in general, is a difficult issue to handle, especially when it comes to personal relationships and parenting.
