Is Your Desk Holding Back Your Productivity?
The clean setup is the envy of every co-worker
I love watching those desk showcase videos on youtube. People just going around their desks showing how cool and minimalist their desks are. Wall-mounted 500 inch monitors with clackity-clack mechanical keyboards and MX-mouses that are way out of our budget, but somehow we still have to make room for them. That’s not at all what makes someone productive or successful, yet I’ve fooled myself into thinking it is.
After all, if I’m not making thousands on my latest medium post, it must be because I’m not writing in on the latest mechanical keyboard, or because my setup isn’t clean enough. Not because I haven’t kept at it long enough, or found my sweet spot, uh-uh, no way.
The reason why it’s just plain hard to stay focused doesn’t have anything to do with me getting stuck on something I started working on, it’s just because my monitor is too small, I can only have one window open at a time, thus limiting my ‘screen real estate’ and handicapping everything for me.
It’s my terrible computer that’s killing me, I just can’t do anything unless I buy the latest machine with the latest specs, and that grapefruit n-1 chip is just so cool, why shoot myself in the foot by not having it?
