I’m sorry if it came off a bit too strong, I definitely don’t have a problem with anyone’s ear’s being pierced, but what I was trying to speak to in the article was more about how we make decisions with our kids.

At the end of the day, parents end up making a lot of decisions for our kids, piercing an ear or two wouldn’t be the end of the world. But the important thing is to make decisions that promote autonomy and teach them how to make good decisions, not just do things because they’re culture has told us they should happen. What you did was something that was fine for you and your partner.

It is your kid, you get to decide what’s best indeed.

But for me, I’ve always struggled with institutions of authority, so it’s hard for me to become one.
