I think he’s just trying to have fun. He laughs at his stories, he laughs at scary stuff. It’s like telling a joke.

Skeleton walks into a bar, orders a beer.

And a mop.

It doesn’t have to be from the heart, it’s enough to make you giggle, and it warms his heart to have that effect on the reader. Stine seems to love the level of influence and success he’s had writing these stories, and he loves that people love them too.

It just needs to be something worth appreciating, not a labor of serious work, just fun is fine.
